After many announcements made at this year's San Diego Comic Con, Marvel has announced that Robert Downey Jr. is set to return to the Avengers franchise as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. But the question for a lot of people is why?

If you don't remember, after a long and rich period of time, Robert Downey Jr. exited the Avengers franchise in the installment Avengers: Endgame, where in it, Downey's character, Iron Man, is killed off.

It was also after that movie that the directors of the original series of films decided to call it quits too. There was nothing for them to really do after that. Iron Man is dead, we beat this franchise into the ground, now let's take our millions of dollars and just chill out.

But apparently money talks, Robert is back and so is Joe and Anthony Russo. And it's barely even been five years.

On one hand, I get it, people aren't really going to the movies anymore, so in order to help bring people in, you decide to bring back one of the most successful actors in the world to one of the most successful movie franchises in the world.

But on the other hand, what's the point if he's not there reprise the role that people love him for?

What's the point of bringing him back if you're not gonna change the way he looks? Continuity in this universe must be insane.

What's the point of bringing him back if you've quite literally exhausted every single story for your franchise? There's over a dozen Marvel movies that are in all someway interconnected with each other, and the past few that have made it to the big screen have been either hit or miss.

When will Disney and Co. learn that in order to succeed in the long run, you actually have to make things that make people think, not rehash things that have worked over and over again.
