You know what the Rolling Stones, Sinead O'Connor, The White Stripes, and now Celine Dion have in common? That's right! They've all had to tell Trump to stop playing their music at rallies.
Since first running for president in 2015, Trump's campaign has somehow always managed to get a major artist to tell them, "No, don't talk to me. DON'T talk to me."
It's so prominent that there's even an entire Wikipedia page, dedicated to all the times this has happened, just in case his organizers need reminders as to which artists not to piss off again.
It's incredible how often the unauthorized use of music happens at these rallies, given how most of these artists are major enough to be represented by BMI or ASCAP. These organizations have very specific rules when it comes to licensing songs at political events, including a rule that if an artist objects to its use, they are able to pull the song at any time.
My personal favorite unlicensed use of music was when his campaign used the Village People's Y.M.C.A., even though the song is literally about how the Y.M.C.A. was a good hookup spot for gay men in the 70's. What a perfect song to play for a campaign that actively wants to take away LGBTQ rights.
If Trump wants good music to play at his events, maybe he should reconsider the disgusting rhetoric that comes out of his mouth.
Or better yet, he should get his equally disgusting friend Kid Rock to supply a soundtrack for him. Oh wait! He technically did two years ago and it was considered one of the worst records of the year! Good going, you crab.
