Acclaimed artist David Lynch, director and creator of such things as the terrifying baby in Eraserhead and the screaming dead Laura Palmer in Twin Peaks, has announced recently that he has been diagnosed with emphysema, a lung disease that is often caused by smoking long-term.
Before a statement was made by the director however, many assumed that the man was going to retire, which is entirely not the case. Come on, did you really think the guy who's been turning heads since the late 70's was gonna give up his passion that quickly?
No, instead he took to Twitter (yes, I'm still gonna call it Twitter) where he responded to accusations of retirement by saying, "Recently I had many tests and the good news is that I am in excellent shape except for emphysema. I am filled with happiness, and I will never retire. I want you all to know that I really appreciate your concern. Love, David.”
So for all you "tortured" artists out there, don't worry, your god is still around and creating, now go back to writing your twenty page long thesis as to why you think Mulholland Drive is really an allegory about gay sex.
P.S. I'm actually a really big fan of Lynch and his work, and wish him nothing but the best.
