New documentary about 'The Day The Clown Cried' to premiere at Venice

The Day the Clown Cried: The Unseen Movie That Refuses to Die

From Darkness to Light, a new documentary from filmmakers Michael Lurie and Eric Friedler, is about and is said to feature footage from the infamous, never released film, The Day The Clown Cried.

For those of you who don't know, The Day The Clown Cried is a 1972 movie staring American comedy actor Jerry Lewis as a clown during the holocaust who's forced to perform his act in front of Jewish children before they're sent off to an untimely demise by Nazis.

It's a premise so incredibly dark that the film never finished production and all that remains of it now is a 40-odd minute cut that is now locked behind the vaults at the Library of Congress.

But atlas, if the idea of watching a movie as depressing as that appeals to you, then maybe this new documentary would be a great watch, as it should help many people understand why and how this idea even got green-lit in the first place.

If you've got tickets to the Venice Film Festival this year, be sure to check out From Darkness to Light, which will be playing in Venice's Classics section.

Or if that doesn't sound exciting to you at all, check out Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which will also be premiering there as well.
